Moved here and got Swish and BankID? Then a Swedish casino will feel familiar, apart from the language. We deposit our own kronor, withdraw them again and time it, then explain it all in plain English.

Guides
Guides for English speakers in Sweden
Start with the two questions newcomers ask most about online casino Sweden: how fast the money comes back, and whether Swish works both ways.
Online casino Sweden basics: how does it work if you are new here?
If you have lived in Sweden for a while, you already use the two tools that matter most. Swish is how you split a restaurant bill or send a flatmate your share of the rent, and BankID is how you log in to your bank, sign your rental contract or check your tax return. A Swedish online casino uses exactly the same tools. The difference is that most of the cashier, the terms and the pop-ups are written in Swedish, and the rules behind them are not always obvious if you grew up somewhere else.
Sweden has had a licensing system for gambling since 1 January 2019. The law is called spellagen (2018:1138), and the authority that supervises it is Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, based in Strängnäs. You do not need to read the law to play, but it explains a lot of what you will see on screen: the 18+ age limit, the deposit limit you are asked to set before you start, and the three small symbols at the top of the page that lead to Spelpaus, Spelgränser and Självtest.
This English guide to online casino Sweden is for people who live here but think in another language: expats, international students, people on work permits, partners who followed someone to Sweden. We assume you have a Swedish bank account, Swish and BankID. We explain what the Swedish words mean, what to expect between pressing "withdraw" and seeing the money, and which rules apply everywhere. We do not tell you where to play. That is your decision.
Which Swedish words will you see in a casino cashier?
Even when a Swedish online casino offers an English version, the payment screens, bank pages and BankID prompts often stay in Swedish. These are the words that come up again and again.

One more word worth knowing is välkomstbonus, the welcome bonus. In Sweden it really is just a welcome: a licensed operator may only give you a bonus the first time you play there. That is why you will rarely see the reload offers, weekly cashback or loyalty bonuses that are common in other countries.
Do you need a personnummer and BankID to play?
The law says the operator must check who you are, but it does not name BankID or any other e-ID. In practice, BankID is how most people in Sweden identify themselves online, so it is what you will usually be offered. More than 8 million people use it to identify themselves and sign digitally.
For a newcomer, the catch is how you get BankID in the first place. It is issued by banks, and you need a Swedish personnummer and to be a customer of a bank that issues it. Each bank sets its own age limit, usually 13 or 18. If you already have BankID on your phone, logging in to a Swedish online casino works like your bank login: you open the app, check what you are approving and confirm.
Some casinos use Pay N Play from Trustly instead of a classic sign-up form. You log in to your own bank, your identity is confirmed as you deposit, and the player account is created in the same step. Either way, the operator also checks you against Spelpaus at registration.
Why is the withdrawal the real test?
Depositing is easy at every online casino Sweden has licensed. The differences show up when you want your money back. A withdrawal has two halves: the casino has to approve the request, and the payment method has to move the money. Modern methods such as Swish payouts, Trustly, Zimpler and Brite can move money within seconds once it has been sent. The waiting, when there is any, usually happens before that, while the request sits as pending or the casino asks you for documents.
That is why we write down three times for every test: when we asked, when the casino approved and when the money arrived. The gap between the first two belongs to the casino. The gap between the last two belongs to the payment method and the banks. Our fast withdrawal casino guide goes through each step and what tends to slow it down.
Swish, Trustly and BankID: what does each one do?
At a Swedish online casino the three are often mentioned in the same breath, but they are different things. BankID is an e-ID: it proves who you are. Swish moves money between bank accounts using your phone number, and you approve each transfer with BankID. It is run by Getswish AB, which is owned by six banks: Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Länsförsäkringar, Nordea, SEB and Swedbank. Trustly is a Swedish payment institution supervised by Finansinspektionen. It moves money directly between bank accounts after you log in to your bank.
Zimpler and Brite work on a similar idea: payment straight from and to your bank, with no card details. All four are Swedish companies supervised by Finansinspektionen. For a newcomer the important point is that, at a Swedish online casino, a method shown on the deposit page is not automatically available for withdrawals. Swish is the classic example, and our Swish casino guide explains why.
Online casino Sweden rules: what applies at every licensed site?
The rules below come from the law, the government ordinance and Spelinspektionen's regulations. They apply whichever Swedish-licensed site you choose, and they are worth knowing because they explain pop-ups at a Swedish online casino that might otherwise look odd.
Deposit limit before you play. You must set a deposit limit per day, week and month. Lowering it takes effect at once; raising it takes effect after 72 hours at the earliest.
Login time. You state whether you want to limit your login time, and you can set a limit per day, week and month.
Status messages while you play. At regular intervals you see how much you have won and lost and how long you have been logged in. You confirm, then choose to stop or carry on.
A summary at every login. Your limits and your total losses over the last 12 months are shown each time you log in.
Bonus only once. A bonus may only be offered the first time you play with an operator.
No marketing to self-excluded players, and every commercial message must state the 18+ age limit.
Limits apply per operator. If you have accounts at three Swedish online casino sites, you have three sets of limits, so it is worth deciding on one overall budget for yourself.
Can you still deposit with a credit card at a Swedish online casino?
Since 1 May 2026, Swedish-licensed operators may not allow or help gambling to be financed with credit. The Riksdag passed the ban on 17 February 2026. It covers third-party credit too, such as credit cards and other consumer credit, and an operator that knows a stake is financed with credit must refuse it. The ban is about borrowed money: a debit card connected to your own account is not credit. If you arrived with a credit card from your home country, expect that a deposit with it can be declined at a Swedish online casino.
Are casino winnings taxed in Sweden?
Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, decides by looking at the game and the market it is aimed at, not at where the company is based. Winnings are tax-free if they are 100 kr or less; if the game needs a Swedish licence and the operator has one; or if the game does not need a Swedish licence and is aimed at the Swedish market or at a market in an EEA country.
Winnings over 100 kr are taxable if the game is aimed at Sweden and needs a Swedish licence but the operator has none; if the game is online and not specifically aimed at an EEA market; or if it takes place physically outside the EEA, for example at a casino in the USA. The tax is 30% of the net winnings, declared as capital income at item 7.2 of the Swedish tax return. Net means winnings minus stakes per calendar year and per operator, with no deduction for losses and no netting between operators. If you are unsure how this fits your own situation, Skatteverket's page is the place to check.
How do you take a break: Spelpaus explained
Spelpaus.se is a service from Spelinspektionen. Registering there blocks you from all gambling that requires an account at every operator licensed in Sweden: online, in shops, at racecourses and on Vegas gaming machines. You can choose 10 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or until further notice (at least 12 months). It cannot be undone or ended early, so pick the period carefully.
You confirm the exclusion by identifying yourself with Mobilt BankID, BankID, Freja eID+ or Foreign eID, which is useful to know if you still use an e-ID from your home country. There is also a paper form for people without an e-ID. According to the counter on Spelpaus.se, 145,520 people were excluded on 28 October 2026.
Where can you get support if Swedish is not your first language?
Stödlinjen, the national help line on 020-81 91 00, is a Swedish-language service, but that does not have to stop you calling. Interpreters can be booked, and there is support in Arabic on Thursdays from 13:00 to 19:00. You can also chat through the website, stodlinjen.se, which many people find easier than speaking on the phone in a second language. Calls are free of charge and confidential, and the person who answers cannot see your number.
Spelberoendes Riksförbund is a support organisation that has worked with gamblers and their relatives since 2000. It runs self-help groups and offers individual talks, with offices in Stockholm (072-503 48 08), Göteborg (031-704 14 41) and Malmö (072-557 99 19). Relatives can contact it too, which is worth knowing if the person you are worried about is a partner or a friend rather than yourself.
Before your first deposit at a Swedish online casino: a newcomer's checklist
None of this takes long, and doing it in this order saves most of the surprises newcomers run into.
Get BankID and Swish working first. BankID needs a Swedish personnummer and an account at a bank that issues it. Once BankID is on your phone, linking Swish to your account is usually quick.
Choose your deposit limit with care. You set it before you play, per day, week and month. A lower limit applies at once, a higher one after 72 hours at the earliest, so start with a figure you are comfortable with.
Look at the withdrawal tab, not just the deposit tab. A method listed for deposits at a Swedish online casino is not automatically available for withdrawals.
Decide on the welcome bonus in advance. You only get one per operator, and a wagering requirement can lock your withdrawal until it is met. You can usually decline it.
Make your details match. The name on your bank account and on your player account should be identical, and the phone number on your profile should be the Swedish number linked to Swish.
Leave the credit card out of it. Since 1 May 2026 gambling on credit is not allowed at Swedish-licensed operators, so a credit card from home may simply be declined.
How to read our online casino Sweden test results
Withdrawal time: from our request to money in the bank, with the date and the method used.
Wagering in kronor: how much has to be staked before a bonus can be withdrawn.
Payment methods: which ones work for deposits and which for withdrawals.
Rating 1–5: based on the test protocol, with the withdrawal weighted most heavily.
Every casino on the list has gone through the same steps, so the numbers can be compared directly: one Swedish online casino against another, on the same terms. No place on the list and no rating is for sale.
Online casino Sweden: frequently asked questions
Is there a Swedish online casino that works fully in English?
Some casinos offer an English version of their site, but the BankID and Swish steps and the bank pages you pass through along the way may still appear in Swedish. The glossary above covers the words you are most likely to meet.
Can I play without a personnummer?
The law requires the operator to identify you but does not prescribe BankID. In practice BankID is the usual route, and BankID itself requires a Swedish personnummer and an account at an issuing bank. How a particular casino handles players without BankID varies from site to site.
Why can I only get one bonus per casino?
Because a Swedish-licensed operator may only give a bonus the first time a player plays there. That is a legal rule, not a casino policy.
How long does a withdrawal take at a Swedish online casino?
Anything from a few minutes to several bank days, depending on how fast the casino approves the request and which method you use. We publish the time we measured ourselves for each casino we test.
Do I have to take the welcome bonus?
No. You can usually decline it when you make your first deposit. Without a bonus, there is no wagering requirement to meet before you withdraw.
Can I raise my deposit limit straight away?
No. A lower limit applies at once, but a higher one applies after 72 hours at the earliest, at every Swedish-licensed operator.
Does Stödlinjen speak English?
Stödlinjen is a Swedish-language service, but interpreters can be booked, and there is support in Arabic on Thursdays from 13:00 to 19:00. Calls are free and confidential.
Casino games are entertainment, not a way to earn money. Decide how much money and time you want to spend before you start, and use deposit limits and breaks. If gambling starts to feel hard to control, you can call Stödlinjen on 020-81 91 00, free of charge and in confidence. It is a Swedish-language service, interpreters can be booked, and you can also chat via stodlinjen.se. The line is open on weekdays that are not public holidays: Monday 09:00–19:00, Tuesday and Wednesday 09:00–17:00, Thursday 11:00–19:00 and Friday 09:00–15:00. The person who answers is bound by confidentiality and cannot see your number. To block all Swedish-licensed gambling for a while, use Spelpaus.se. 18+.
